SEAED ENVELOPE
1. Sudden stroke
Mrs. Lua – a mother in her seventies, lived frugally, working hard to raise three children. Her two sons – Dung and Hoa – both have families and stable jobs. The youngest daughter – Mai – married far away, life is not rich but warm.
One afternoon, while busy sweeping the yard, Mrs. Lua suddenly collapsed. Taken to the hospital, the doctor concluded: severe stroke, must lie in bed for a long time.

4. Secret envelope
After almost two months of treatment, Mrs. Lua’s condition stabilized and the doctor discharged her from the hospital. On the day she was going home, she called her whole family. With trembling hands, she took out a carefully sealed envelope from under the blanket.
– I wanted to send this to Nam, my daughter-in-law. But the whole family needs to see it. I don’t have the strength to say anything more.
She put the envelope in Nam’s hand. Everyone was shocked. Dung and Hoa looked at each other, their eyes full of suspicion and jealousy.
5. The truth is revealed
When they got home, when everyone was gathered, Mai suggested opening the envelope. Nam carefully peeled off the glue. There was no money or household papers inside as the siblings had guessed, but… a will and savings book worth more than 2 billion VND – the amount of money he had saved throughout his life, selling fields and gardens, and saving since his youth.
In his will, he clearly wrote:
“I leave all this money to my youngest daughter and her husband – Mai and Nam. My two sons, Dung and Hoa, are now grown up, have their own jobs and properties, but I was never really taken care of. While I was bedridden, only Nam was not afraid of dirt or poverty. I am grateful for that. I give this property to my true children.”
The atmosphere was heavy. The dirt hit the table:
– Mom is too biased! After all, we are biological children. Why give everything to the son-in-law?
Hoa also grumbled:
– The son-in-law is just an outsider. Do you think this is fair?
Mai burst into tears:
– Is this fair? When Mom needed her the most, where were you? Who cleaned her up and brought her to the sun? If it weren’t for my husband, Mom would have been lying in the dirt!
Nam was silent, her head bowed. She didn’t think of receiving anything in return, she only considered it her duty to take care of her mother-in-law.
6. The end of each person
From that day on, the two children bowed in front of the neighbors. Everyone whispered:
– Mrs. Lua is so smart, leaving her property to her daughter and her husband. The two children are only afraid of dirt and hardship.
Dung and Hoa lived with contemptuous looks, gradually blaming themselves but it was too late.
Nam and Mai did not use the money for the wedding
Nam and Mai did not use the money for fun, but to fix up the old house and set aside a portion to set up a charity fund in their mother’s name. They wanted to continue spreading her love.
