Don Arthur, 50 years old, is a widowed billionaire. Despite his wealth, he is afraid to love again. He fears that women might only be interested in his money.
Then he met Rina, 35 years old — a simple employee in his company and a mother of three children. Rina is also a widow: hardworking, kind, and deeply devoted to her family.
They met without Rina knowing that Arthur was actually the owner of the company. Arthur introduced himself only as “Arturo,” a humble messenger.

THE TEST
Their relationship lasted for six months. Arthur truly loved Rina, but doubt still lingered in his heart.
One day, Arthur decided to carry out the ultimate test.
He went to Rina’s house with messy hair, torn clothes, and tears in his eyes.
“Rina… I was fired from my job,” Arthur lied.
“I have no money left. I’m sick. I have nowhere to go. Could I… could I stay here for a while?”
Arthur felt nervous. Rina’s house was small, already crowded with her three children. Surely she would refuse him—he would only be a burden.
But he was stunned by Rina’s answer.
Rina smiled, even with tears in her eyes.
“What are you talking about, Arturo? I won’t abandon you. The children and I will share whatever food we have, as long as you’re with us. We’re family.”
Rina welcomed him in. For an entire week, Arthur witnessed how difficult their life truly was. Their meals were often just dried fish and eggs, yet Rina always made sure Arthur ate first before herself.
THE WITNESS
Back at Don Arthur’s company, chaos erupted because the boss had disappeared. The only one who knew the truth was Aling Belen, the elderly cleaning lady whom Arthur deeply trusted.
One day, Arthur secretly called Aling Belen.
“Aling Belen, how is the company? Don’t worry, I’m coming back tomorrow. I’ve proven that Rina truly loves me. She’s willing to suffer for me.”
But Aling Belen’s voice suddenly turned serious.
“Sir Arthur… there is something you don’t know.”
“What do you mean?” Arthur asked.
“Ma’am Rina came here yesterday,” the cleaning lady explained. “She thought I was a manager because I was well dressed while cleaning. She spoke to me… and she begged.”
“Begged? For what? Did she ask for money?” Arthur panicked. Was this the truth he feared?
“No, sir,” Aling Belen replied, her voice trembling with emotion.
“She begged that you be accepted back at work. She said you needed money for medicine. She even said you could deduct from her salary, or that she could be fired instead—just so you could be rehired. She even sold the only ring she had left—the one her mother gave her—just to pay for your ‘medicine.’”
Arthur froze. His whole body went cold.
That ring… the one thing Rina treasured most. She sacrificed it for a “messenger” who had nothing to offer her.
THE REVELATION
That night, Arthur returned to Rina’s house.
He found her children sharing a single piece of fish, while Rina ate only rice with soup.
“Arturo, come eat,” Rina said cheerfully. “I bought medicine for your cough.”
Arthur could no longer hold back. He knelt before Rina and cried.
“Forgive me, Rina…”
Outside the house, three luxury cars pulled up. Drivers and bodyguards stepped out. Aling Belen entered carrying a beautiful dress.
“Sir Arthur, the car is ready,” Aling Belen said.
Rina was completely shocked.
“S-Sir Arthur? A billionaire?”
Arthur held Rina’s hand tightly.
“Rina, I hid my wealth to find a woman who would love me sincerely. But I found more than that. I found a mother willing to give everything for the people she loves.”
Arthur took out the ring Rina had pawned—he had already redeemed it earlier. He slipped it back onto her finger, alongside a large diamond ring.
“Will you marry me, Rina? And to your children—from today on, I will be their father. You will never go hungry again.”
MORAL OF THE STORY
True love is not measured by comfort, but by the willingness to stay beside each other in times of hardship.
It is easy to love someone rich—but far more beautiful to love someone who chooses to stay, even when there is nothing.
