His voice trembled as he read.
“If anything happens to me,
please make sure the children stay together.
This house is not their inheritance.
They are each other’s inheritance.”
Silence filled the room.

Another letter.
“Sell the house if you must.
Break the walls if needed.
But never break the family.”
Hands shook.
Tears fell.
The youngest sat down hard.
“All this time…” he whispered.
The third sibling wiped his face.
“We were fighting over something he never meant to keep us apart.”
They didn’t call the lawyer again.
They fixed the roof.
Cleaned the house.
Shared meals there again.
Months later, they sold it.
The money was split evenly.
But something else returned.
Family dinners.
Laughter.
Apologies.
On the day the house keys were handed over, the eldest said quietly,
“This house was never the problem.”
The others nodded.
MORAL OF THE STORY
Money reveals what love hides.
Before you fight for what was left behind,
ask yourself what it’s costing you.
Because no property,
no land,
no inheritance…
is worth losing the people
who were meant to share it with you.
