A 6-year-old girl meets another girl who looks like her at school… The mother pales when she sees the DNA test results

That morning, Lucía took her daughter Sofia, who was only six years old, by the hand to elementary school as usual. Sofia was lively, charming and very alert, so all her classmates loved her. But that day, when they crossed the school gate, Lucía felt something… strange.

In the middle of the yard, there was another girl walking hand in hand with her mother, happily chatting. What chilled Lucía was that this girl was exactly like Sofia: the same shoulder-length hair, the same big round eyes, even the same dimple at the corner of her mouth. From a distance, she seemed to be looking at herself in the mirror.

Sofia also opened her eyes in surprise, let go of her mother’s hand and ran forward:
“Mom, look! Why is there another one of me here?”

The two were surprised and then laughed. As if they had known each other their whole lives, they immediately held hands, laughed and asked each other questions without stopping. Lucía and the other girl, Carolina, faced each other, full of confusion.

The group teacher could not hold back her laughter:
“If you tell me they are twins, I will believe you without hesitation.”

The yard was filled with the laughter of the children, but in Lucia’s heart there was a restlessness that she did not leave all day. That evening, while eating, Sofia excitedly told her how she had met “another one like me”. Lucia smiled slightly, but the scene of the morning relentlessly pursued her.

A bold thought crossed her mind: what if there had been some confusion in the past?

A few days later, Lucía and Carolina met again at the end of class. The conversation progressed little by little, until, unable to contain herself, Lucía asked:
“Have you ever thought about doing a DNA test on the girls?”

Carla was shocked but her eyes also showed doubt. Finally, the two agreed to take the little ones to a laboratory, “just to be calm.”

But when they received the results … They both lost their breath.

The report said: “Sofia and Ana have the same genetic profile – 99.9% match.”

This didn’t just mean that they were identical: they were twins.

Carolina shook her head, and asked in a trembling voice:
“It’s impossible! I only have one girl, the doctor gave her to me in his arms…”

Lucía was also shocked. Six years ago, she had a complicated cesarean section in a hospital in Guadalajara. She barely saw her daughter before she lost consciousness. When she woke up, a nurse had already taken her to Sofia. How could there be another woman?

The next day, Lucia couldn’t sleep. She searched her medical records, called the old doctor, contacted the nurses she knew. Little by little, the truth emerged: that day there had been several births at once; the maternity ward was crowded and chaotic. Could it be possible for the newborns to mix?

Meanwhile, Sofia and Anne were inseparable. They shared a living room, they came and went together, they seemed to be united by blood. The teachers commented:
“They think alike, they do the same homework, they even play as if they were one.”

One day, Carolina sighed as she picked up her daughter:
“If the hospital really made a mistake… What will we do? Who is the biological mother?”

The question took Lucia’s breath away. What if the woman he had raised with so much love for six years was not his biological daughter? But as he looked into Sophie’s eyes, he told himself, “No matter what, she will always be my daughter.”

Lucía and Carolina decided to return to the hospital where they had given birth. After insisting, they were given the original files. There was the key: that same day there had been a twin birth. The mother was in critical condition and one of the babies had been rushed to an incubator. The records were confusing, incomplete.

A retired nurse, reviewing the documents, put her hand over her mouth and confessed:
“That day there was a mix-up… one of the babies was given to the wrong mother.”

The two women were paralyzed. Finally the truth: Sofia and Anne were twins who had been mistaken from birth.

The news filled them with pain, but also with relief: they finally understood why the girls were so alike. Fate was cruel, but now they had a chance to make amends.
