“Go home. Pretend to be sick. Don’t get on that plane now.”
The Flight Attendant and the Death Warning
The airport was glowing with lights, but Carmen felt a cold dread. She and her husband, Javier, had just finished check-ins for their “romantic” business trip to Málaga. Everything was supposed to be perfect, but as Javier turned around to buy coffee, a shadow approached Carmen.
She’s Isabel, a flight attendant with eyes that suggest deep concern.
“Go home, pretend to be sick,” Isabel whispered, her voice trembling. “Don’t get on that flight now.”
Before Carmen could even react, Isabel hurriedly put a rolled tissue paper in her hand and left. When Carmen opened it, there were only two words: “She’s lying.”
An hour later, at the boarding gate, Carmen decided to heed the mad warning. Suddenly she fell to the floor, her stomach clenched as if it were twisted.
“Oh, it hurts so much…” He groaned.
Javier, her loving husband, showed no concern. Instead, she frowned in annoyance. “That’s just a stomach ache, Carmen. Be patient. The plane is leaving!”
That chill was like lightning that struck Carmen’s doubts. She pretended to die, forcing them to cancel the trip. Javier was furious.
Returning to the quiet mansion, Carmen locked herself in her bedroom and waited. Finally, Carmen received a call to the office.
Carmen pressed her ear to the oak door. She heard Javier’s whisper, full of anger and a hint of fear:
“Listen, Valeria! The plan was postponed. Carmen suddenly fell ill… No, that fool is not suspicious, but we must do it immediately! She cancelled the flight!”
And Valeria… Carmen had never heard that name.
Javier continued, voice becoming venomous: “I bought 15 million euros of insurance, you know that! That’s the only thing that will save me from gamblers! We have to take him to the cliff in Málaga. Perfect for a ‘big’ accident while taking a selfie at sunset, right? We can’t fail now!”
Carmen’s whole world collapses. The romantic journey is just a death trap. Javier, who has vowed to love her for life, plots to kill her to get the insurance money.
Carmen did not flee. She turned her fear into cold iron.
He secretly met with Isabel. The flight attendant explained that he was a stranger who happened to overhear Javier and Valeria’s whole plan.
Carmen worked with Isabel and her lawyer. A new plan was outlined: Replicate the Trip.
Carmen returned home, pretending to be a weak but innocent wife. She rebooked her flight and smiled at Javier: “Honey, I’m fine. We need to go. I know this trip is important.”
Javier smiled triumphantly, unaware that Carmen had a miniature recorder and GPS device attached to him, given to him by private detective Marcos.
Two days later, they were standing on a steep cliff in Málaga. The waves were crashing below, and the sun was setting, turning red in the sky.
Valeria arrived. The fake smile on her lips faded as Javier nodded.
“Javier… What’s going on?” asked Carmen, voice trembling like that of a victim who has been stabbed.
Javier approached, his gentlemanship gone. Her face was distorted with greed. “Nothing is happening, my dear. You just have to go. 15 million euros will help Valeria and me to have a new life.”
Valeria smiled: “Thank you for your life insurance, you!”
Javier reached out his hand to push Carmen away. At that moment, Carmen stood up straight, her eyes no longer feared, but anger and contempt.
“You’re lying!” he yelled, his voice echoing through the canyon. “All your lies have been recorded, Javier!”
Javier and Valeria were stunned. Suddenly, from behind the rocks, a police siren sounded. Detective Marcos arrived with his squad, guns in hand.
“It’s a policeman! You have been charged with attempted murder and insurance fraud.”
Javier and Valeria are arrested on the spot, their careers and lives ruined in the very precipice they chose to turn into someone else’s grave.
Carmen got divorced, and she got it all. The 15 million euros are no longer ransoms, but his legal property. He gave a portion of the money to Isabel – the silent hero who saved her life.
Carmen was standing on the shore, not on the abyss of death, but on a warm beach. This time, he was truly free. Not only did he survive, but he also came back with the strength and dignity of a victorious.
