But surprisingly, it’s been almost a year since I haven’t received a single cent. I still rely on the meager pension I receive every month.

I am 69 years old, and although my son sends money every month, I don’t receive anything. I secretly checked, and the pictures on the bank camera silenced the whole family…

Now that I am 69, my hair is almost white. Since my husband passed away, I have been living with my eldest son and his wife in a small house in the countryside. My youngest son—Hùng—has been working abroad. Since he went there, he has always called and said:

– Mom, don’t worry. Every month I will send money to the account in your name. Use it for your daily needs and for your old age.

Those words made me feel better. But surprisingly, I haven’t received any money for almost a year. I still rely on the small pension provided by the government.

Whenever I ask, my son-in-law says:

– Mom, you’re old, you don’t need to spend much. My husband and I will take care of you.

It sounds nice, it sounds kind… but I feel a little nervous.

One day, I called Hùng:

– Son, are you having a problem? Why don’t I see any money coming in?

He was surprised:

– Huh? How come there’s none? I send money to your account every month. The bank itself calls to confirm! Try checking it.

I was shocked to hear that. That means he sends money regularly—but why don’t I receive anything? Where does the money go?

The next day, I went to the bank and asked for a statement. The employee looked at it and said softly:

– Grandma, money comes in every month. But soon, it was also running out because someone was withdrawing from the ATM.

My world felt like it was collapsing. I didn’t even know how to use an ATM. Who was doing this?

I asked to watch the CCTV footage. And when the video came out, I sat up, my knees weak:
The one withdrawing… was my son-in-law.
His face was calm as he took out the thick bills one by one.

I took the documents and photos home. That evening, I called the couple. I laid the papers on the table:

– This is the money Hùng sent me for the whole year. But I never received it. Look.

My son opened it—and was shocked to see his wife’s face on the screen.

His voice trembled:

– Is this true? You did this?

My daughter-in-law knelt down, sobbing:

– Forgive me, Mom… Forgive you too, my dear. I was stunned… I saw that Hùng had sent a large gift, and Mom, on the other hand, hardly spent anything. I was afraid that he would just save it up and give it all to Hùng when he got home, while we were struggling so much. So I dared to take it…

It felt like my heart was stabbed. Not because of the money—but because of the broken trust.

My daughter shouted angrily:

– You no longer respect Mama!

I stopped her, crying:

– That’s enough. The money, you can get it back. But the family that will be destroyed… that hurts so much. My only request—be honest. Don’t let greed swallow your heart.

The weight of the wind remained throughout the house. My daughter-in-law was crying non-stop, my daughter bowed down, holding back her sobs of shame.

The next day, my son-in-law returned all the money he had taken and promised not to do it again. I accepted… but the pain remained.

The footage on the bank camera—I will never forget it.

A scar on my heart.
A scar of betrayal.
A lesson learned—anyone can change because of money.

I don’t hold grudges.
But I won’t forget either.

Because what matters most—is not the money Hùng sends…
but the true love and family ties.
And when it is swallowed up by greed…
everything will be destroyed.
